The 42nd Annual White Truffle Festival of San Miniato

Located halfway between Florence and Pisa, San Miniato is the quaint medieval hilltop town that hosts one of the world’s most acclaimed food festivals, dedicated to perhaps the most prestigious product: the white truffle. This delicacy is often referred to as “white gold” and “diamond of the earth” – surely also for its incredibly high price tag, which last year reached €4000 for a kilo!

Despite its international fame, the San Miniato festival maintains an atmosphere of a local market fair, tied to its traditional roots. The primary goal remains to have visitors get to know the authentic products and customs of Tuscany. Wandering through the charming streets and squares of this lovely town one will find over 2 kilometers of food stands offering a myriad of local products to taste and purchase. There will also be various activities animating the scene, including gourmet cooking shows held by renowned chefs, marching bands, street performances, and, of course, the contest for the largest truffle of the season. As of today, the record is still held by Arturo Gallerini, who in 1954 found the world’s largest white truffle weighing 2520 grams!

2012 Dates: November 10-11, 17-18, 24-25.
